my roommate recently acquired a d90 and weve had a few impromptu "classes" in which i do my best (however under qualified i may be) to teach him how to use his new camera. as a way to demonstrate depth of field and the importance of larger aperture lenses in low light, i took this little snapshot while he reviewed his pictures.
in my opinion, you can read about photography and understand concepts, but until you really immerse yourself and make mistakes through trial and error, youre really missing a big part of the art.

i think he's got a great teacher! you do understand the ins and outs of how the camera works and why the photographs come out the way they do, all while still having a great eye for what simply makes a photograph look good.
